Waigani Christian school gets a facelift

Updated: May 14

The Waigani Christian school has proven that they prioritize the learning of their students, and this is through the commissioning of their new multi-million-kina bi-level classroom building.

There are 16 classrooms in this structure, which can accommodate 400 students. According to Benjamin Mul, the creator of the school, this will make it simpler for the school to manage the pre- and primary schoolchildren as they want to fill all 16 classrooms with these pupils. The building took two years to complete its construction phase which was worth K4 million. This amount was successfully sourced and collected through the work of its founder Benjamin Mul.

Even though interior design work is still being done, the school and its administration have come out confidently to declare that this facility would be used to its maximum capacity for the 2023 academic year.

Mul claims it is the first of its sort in the National Capital Region and demonstrates the school’s dedication to making sure kids obtain the highest caliber of education in a setting that can meet their expanding demands for a good education.

According to him, each classroom will have 25 kids to provide the necessary space for these pupils to feel at ease while they are studying.

In Papua New Guinea, there are more than 3,500 primary schools and more than 600 secondary schools, according to the department of education. The number of children in Papua New Guinea between the ages of five and 17 was estimated by the UN to be 3.4 million in 2021.

Given that a big section of the population is school-age and that investing in existing schools is crucial for a nation’s development and progress, Papua New Guinea should do so.

Having a well-educated population can lead to a variety of benefits such as:

  • Improved economic growth and productivity

  • Reduced poverty and inequality

  • Better health outcomes

  • Improved governance and civic engagement

  • Greater social and political stability

Students are more likely to have a positive attitude towards learning and be more engaged in their education when they are comfortable in their schools. This might also result in several advantages.

Academic performance has increased among students. They are more likely to attend class regularly, do their homework and assignments, and get better scores if they feel safe and at home in their schools.

They have better mental and physical health because students can feel less stressed and anxious in a secure and pleasant learning environment, which can result in greater physical and mental health.

Additionally, these children frequently feel more a part of the school community, which may boost their enthusiasm and involvement in class.

Other than that, choosing to have fewer students in each classroom is also a rational choice since smaller classes allow teachers to provide each student with more individualized attention, which may assist discover and address their unique needs and learning styles.

This is advantageous for instructors as well as pupils, so everyone benefits. Smaller class sizes can also be advantageous for instructors since they will experience less stress and workload, which will be better for their health.
