Updated: May 14

Development has long been a top priority in people’s lives. All areas of our life, including communication, transportation, health, and education, have been impacted by technological advancements. It has significantly altered people’s life in either a positive or negative way.

Students may benefit from the internet just as much as adults do. It provides them with immediate access to solutions outside of those found in their textbooks or written there. Children of today will utilize the internet to find the information they need. Computers will enable students to study any topic more thoroughly while still directing them to the appropriate resources.

It is a great achievement for the Mogol Secondary School in the Province of Southern Highlands as they are now connected to the internet. While making the announcement, a high-spirited Principal of the school, Alex Nakanol said with this connection, students can now conduct most if not all of their research work using the internet.

This was made possible through the school’s partnership with the mobile network operator Telikom. The school is currently using the VSAT Internet system.

A very small dish antenna is used by the VSAT or Very Small Aperture Terminal Internet system to communicate with an orbiting satellite. The provision of internet and telecommunications services to remote and rural regions of Papua New Guinea that are not served by conventional cable infrastructure using VSAT technology. This link, according to principal Nakanol, benefits instructors as well as pupils.

In the 21st century, where everyone is online and using technology to its fullest potential to improve their job, he claimed, the Mogol Secondary School shouldn’t fall behind.

The Mogol Secondary School is the only school in the Southern Highlands implementing this Telikom service, according to a very happy Principal Nakanol. He also expressed his gratitude to the service provider for guaranteeing the school’s secure connection.

Telikom has selected Mogol Secondary School to serve as the prototype site for this initiative, and if everything goes well, the same concept will be implemented in more schools, according to Principal Nakanol.

Access to the internet is an essential part of modern education, and it is crucial for students in remote and interior regions particularly. Accessing instructional resources might be difficult for these pupils, but the internet can fill in some of the gaps.

Students have access to a multitude of instructional resources via the internet, including videos, interactive learning tools, and online textbooks. In addition to providing the opportunity for students to pursue their hobbies and passions outside of the classroom, this may support and enhance their education in the classroom. Furthermore, remote students are given the same access to educational resources as their urban counterparts, which may help level the playing field and provide them with the same chances for success.

Additionally, it gives students chances to interact with others and work on projects together. Online connections with colleagues and professors, as well as those with students from different cities or even different countries, can be made in this way. In today’s globalized world, collaboration and communication are crucial skills for success, and the internet may aid pupils in gaining these abilities.

Students who have access to the internet have more chances to enroll in online courses and training programs that can help them become ready for graduate school or a profession. For students who may not have the same access to higher education as students in metropolitan areas, this can be extremely crucial.

The economic factor must also be considered; pupils who have access to the internet will have more business and career prospects. Students can use the internet to find information about job openings, communicate with possible employers, and present their talents and qualifications. Students may also receive information about business prospects and have the opportunity to launch their firms and become entrepreneurs thanks to this.

In conclusion, providing internet access to students in rural and interior areas is necessary for their education and future development. It may aid in closing the educational gap between urban and rural areas, present chances for cooperation and communication, and create chances for further study and employment. To ensure that all students have equal opportunity for success, governments, and educational institutions must prioritize and invest in extending internet connectivity to these areas.
