IN the heart of Papua New Guinea, Tokua Airport stands as a vital lifeline for both
domestic and international travelers. Amidst the bustling activity of this essential
hub, a significant transformation is underway, led by the National Airports Corporation
(NAC). With a commitment to safety and efficiency, the NAC is undertaking important
airport improvements aimed at elevating Tokua Airport to new heights.
At the forefront of these endeavors is the renovation of Tokua Airport’s runway, a critical
component of the airport’s infrastructure. The project entails resurfacing the runway
with fresh asphalt concrete, a necessary step to ensure the safety and reliability of aircraft
operations. However, as with any construction undertaking, these renovations come with
temporary adjustments to the airport’s operating hours.
For a limited period, Tokua Airport’s operating hours have been adjusted to accommodate
the asphalt overlay works on the runway. This adjustment, though inconvenient for travellers
and stakeholders, is a vital measure to facilitate the renovation process. Despite facing
delays caused by adverse weather conditions, the NAC remains steadfast in its commitment
to completing the project efficiently and effectively.
The current runway improvements mark a significant milestone in Tokua Airport’s transformation journey. Following the placement of asphalt concrete, a curing period will be required before the runway can safely accommodate aircraft operations. The NAC aims to restore normal aircraft operations within a specified timeframe, with further construction phases planned soon.
Beyond Tokua Airport, the NAC’s dedication to modernizing aviation infrastructure extends to various projects across Papua New Guinea. From inviting bids for construction and completion works at other airports to enhancing security services at key aviation hubs, the NAC is committed to fostering connectivity and improving facilities.
Under the visionary leadership of the Acting Managing Director/CEO Dominic Kaumu, the NAC places a strong emphasis on community engagement and environmental sustainability.
By working closely with local communities and integrating environmental conservation efforts into airport projects, the NAC strives to create a lasting impact that benefits both present and future generations.
As Papua New Guinea continues to progress, the NAC remains at the forefront of aviation infrastructure development in the country. Through collaboration with stakeholders and adherence to international standards, the NAC is paving the way towards a brighter aviation future for Papua New Guinea and its people.
